Ventilation is the process of bringing in fresh air from outside and removing indoor air.
Indoor air becomes stale over time and with the addition of:

Fresh air Ventilation Systems include the fitting of Ducting, Fans, Fittings and Bends to circulate air throughout a building.
Ventilation does not include removal of harmful substances from the air such as welding fumes and dust generated by processes.
Ventilation is important for businesses to comply with their duty to provide sufficient fresh air under health and safety law, and reducing the spread of infectious diseases.
Apart from being the law for businesses to provide sufficient fresh air, you don’t need university studies to show you what you should already know – but then . . .
Good ventilation means:
improved health
better job concentration
higher levels of satisfaction with the working environment
lower absentee rates
better sleep quality
reduced exposure to air pollutants
Methods of ventilation vary from building to building and your Airtek Consultant will present options that work best for your workplace.
Natural ventilation relies on doors, windows, trickle vents, air bricks and grilles to allow air circulation. However due to people placing extra partitions and walls – for space sub-division, without regard for air circulation – over time your work areas can become “sick”
Mechanical ventilation uses fans to circulate air into and out of rooms. In small spaces and buildings these may be in the room, but larger buildings may use a network of ducts and fans to blow clean air into rooms and/or extract the stale air.
Some buildings have a mixture of natural and mechanical ventilation, with either (or both) systems in different spaces.
Most high-rise buildings only have air conditioning – but no mechanical ventilation.
What the Law says: Employers must ‘ensure that every enclosed workplace is ventilated by a sufficient quantity of fresh or purified air’.
Apart from the obvious no-brainer of increasing natural ventilation by opening doors, windows and vents. But do not prop Fire Doors open.
Ensure that mechanical re-circulation systems which keep air moving, (including air-conditioning systems), have not gotten clogged air inlets, and that they are kept open to avoid the air becoming unhealthy.
However- You may need a combination of natural and mechanical ventilation.
Providing it is working correctly, mechanical ventilation brings fresh air into a building from outside using ducts and fans.
Mechanical ventilation has the advantage of providing fresh air consistently.
Mechanical ventilation requires energy to operate the system and needs to be properly maintained.
Ensure that outdoor air is actually clean, rather than assuming outdoor air is clean. If you anticipate that the air coming in will be heavily contaminated with particulates such as heavy traffic dirt or smoke, then it must be filtered.
You may need a ventilation engineer to check your system is providing adequate ventilation.
Recirculated air must be be adequately filtered to remove particulates and should have fresh air added to it before being reintroduced into the workplace. For this – you need Specialist advice such as that supplied by Airtek Airconditioners.
